Was (Not Was): Out Come the Freaks [Mar. 4th, 2004|04:40 pm]
collating bones
If you're going to listen to Was (Not Was), you're going to hear "Out Come the Freaks," I realize this, but five times on one disc is probably a little excessive if you're not going to fill the entire disc with it. Even so, "Wheel Me Out" still sounds fantastic. I'd never heard a lot of the stuff from the first album (ostensibly the center of this reissue), and it's held up well over the last 20 years or so, especially that bass playing. (I am remembering now that an old friend of mine once told me that David Was cyber-befriended her after they met in a chat room on AOL. Lean years, I suspect.) I even like the pseudo-Zappa sketches. Why didn't they produce more records for people outside their immediate orbit while the band was still active? They could have done the same sort of thing as the Chic Organization, but weirder.
