The Streets: A Grand Don't Come for Free [Feb. 25th, 2004|11:23 pm]
collating bones
Apologies for sparseness of this LJ lately--have been in deadline hell. It might ease up a little next week. if I'm lucky.

Anyway: Always got that the Streets were (was?) good, never got why he was supposed to be So Great. I do like "It Was Supposed To Be So Easy" a lot here--screwed-down string sample, screwed-up too-loud vocal--and the sung bit of "Could Well Be In" is fun too. Loses some steam after that, & the tough guy w/ heart of gold and deep self-doubts persona is... refreshing but wears a little thin, you know? Also, and I know this is an unusual objection for me to be raising, I'm not crazy about how much he relies on choruses as a labor-saving device. I want to hear this some more, though.
