Bill Laswell: ROIR Dub Sessions [Feb. 16th, 2004|12:21 am]
collating bones
What was the exact moment of Bill Laswell's career where I stopped having any use for his records? I mean, I like Material, & really like Massacre. But all of those "ambient reconstructions" records in the '90s turned me right off. Was curious about this from the cover (four Laswell records, condensed!), less curious when I opened up the booklet and saw the usual suspects playing on it. In any case: "dub" doesn't just mean "nice bass tone"--it means lots of little shocks, & shocks are lacking here. So's foregrounding of anything.
