Black Dice: "Miles of Smiles" [Feb. 11th, 2004|10:47 pm]

Having rejected everything but texture, they live and die by their amp settings and the brands of battery in their pedals. This is 28 minutes' worth of two "songs," and I'll agree that a lot of it is pretty cool-sounding, as ambient irritations go. But sometimes it seems like the kind of tool-making that I tend to resist in electronic music: great, that's a really cool sound, now what are you going to do with it? I'm not askin' for pop songs or anything, and I'm told that "Trip Dude Delay" is an actual composition, but am I wrong for wanting a little more composition still? Like that feedback spasm from the second half of their old 10-inch?
