The Bearcuts: The Bearcuts Swing in Beatlemania [Jan. 22nd, 2004|07:03 pm]
collating bones
I'm pretty obsessed with fake Beatles records--the ones by bands from early 1964 who thought they could cover "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You," slap some Beatle wigs on the cover, and pass themselves off as the real thing to ill-informed grandparents. This isn't one of the better (by which I mean much, much worse) ones, but it's pretty effective--highlights include their utter inability to hit the falsetto bits of "From Me to You" , and the contrast between the "Recorded in London, England!!" on the front cover and the "manufactured by Miller International Co., Runnemede, N.J." on the back cover. Inevitable song title: "Liverpool Stomp." In what somebody probably thought was a flash of cleverness, the Beatle wigs on the front cover are on human stick-figure heads attached to beetle bodies.
