Strictly Kev: Raiding the 20th Century [Jan. 22nd, 2004|01:20 am]

Yes, it's an MP3, but it gets an entry here because it's longer than the first Ramones album. Considerably. This is his gigantic metamegamix--not just a mix of practically every important bit of 20th-century sound, but a mix of _mixes_ of p.e.i.b.o.20-c.s. I'm sure I didn't even catch a quarter of what was going on, but I especially loved hearing Alvin Lucier's "I Am Sitting in a Room" at the beginning (maybe the most beautiful piece of purely conceptual sound-art I know), and the string of 1-second snatches of mashups of "Without Me": "I've created a monster"/"I've created a monster"/"I've created a monster"/"I've created a monster"... Also, some woman's voice saying "one, one, one, one, one" over chopped-up bits of the "Blow Your Head" riff to approximate the chorus of "Public Enemy No. 1"--very nice.
