Tortoise: It's All Around You [Jan. 18th, 2004|07:18 pm]

Not nearly as good an album title as Standards was, but a better album, I think on first listen: more studio ingenuity, which is what I come to Tortoise for. Nothing's stuck in my head yet as a theme, although those always take a while with these guys. I'll be curious to see if they go back to their practice of getting big-name remixers to mess with their material, now that they've made a record that seems less band-plays-composition-based. (What would they sound like remixed by the DFA? Probably pretty great.)
