Paul Lydon: Vitlast hús [Jan. 17th, 2004|11:16 pm]
collating bones
Lydon made some remarkable records under the names Blek Ink and Sanndreymi a few years ago, and played on my show once. He's now recording under his own name; this record's entirely in Icelandic, so I can't respond to the ungainly beauty of his lyrics the way I could with the Blek Ink stuff. But I can respond to his voice, and his arrangements, which are lyric in the way that lyric poetry is ("of the lyre"): a soft but very direct expression of an eccentric self, just as, say, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake and Scott Walker's best records are (although not at all in the way theirs are).

(Here's some of his recent stuff.)
