The Ah Club: Kiss The Sky Goodbye [Jan. 15th, 2002|11:22 am]
collating bones
A real oddity, and one I don't think I'd pulled off the shelf in five years--such are the benefits of the parashah. I know nothing about them except that this is on Shrimper and the Cannanes play on one track--were they Californian? American? what? The singer probably has the least-capable-of-hitting-notes voice of anyone I've ever heard try to hit notes; the loops each song is based on (and how appropriate that this is right near Adventures in Stereo on the shelf) sound like they're looped by hand on dirty tape. But this really works, improbably, in part because the songs they're sampling and looping are muddy and unrecognizable. Except for the Slint one in the middle of the album, which is messy and beautiful on its own terms. Now I want to know what happened to them.
