The tragedy of sound quality is this: it doesn't matter most of the time, except when it does. These are messy live tapes of his pre-Great Plains bands, and if he were, I don't know, Joy Division it wouldn't matter, but he wasn't, and it basically just sounds like some people kicking up a racket. Maybe the songs are there, maybe they aren't, and in any case I can't get close enough to notice. As much as I like Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, this just isn't doing it.
