I knew that between "Machine Gun" and "Three Times a Lady," something big and bad had happened to them, and a two-disc retrospective seemed like the way to find out what and when. I would have placed it after "Brick House." I would've been wrong. Actually, that and "Machine Gun" appear to have been happy aberrations--they tried funk a couple of other times, but it sounds like that was just 'cause they were flailing for market strategies at the time. Mostly, it's what I feared. (Though I still do want to hear their "quirky debut single," "The Zoo (The Human Zoo).")
