Seachange: Glitterball EP [Jan. 31st, 2004|12:33 pm]
collating bones
I was told that this was "kind of like King of the Slums," which was a good way to get my attention--KotS were all about tension-and-no-release, with chalkboard fingernail violin and weighted-sphere-within-a-weighted-sphere circular movement. I think the similarity here is that there's a guest cello player and lots of guitar pedals, but everything proceeds in a linear plod, and their trail disappears after them as in a heavy snowstorm. The equivalent of one of those people who can never meet your eyes while they're talking to you, so even when they're something that might be interesting you can't tell if they have any personal investment in it, which makes it hard to develop any yourself.
